L-Glutamine For IBS and Crohns

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is thought to affect around one in ten people worldwide; in the United States, where dietary habits are especially bad, experts believe this number is closer to 20%.

IBS is not only embarrassing, it is a symptom of poor gut health.  Though it is not popular to talk about — and most don’t even want to talk about it with their doctor — digestive health is directly linked to one’s overall health.  Put simply, if your gut and digestive system is not working as it should, your health will not be as good as it could be.

L-glutamine and IBS
IBS sufferers experience both bouts of constipation and diarrhea, and all sorts of related problems such as hemorrhoids, frequent heartburn and intestinal spasms (cramping).  There are drug treatments that can help to control the symptoms but sadly, these usually come with a host of side effects and long-term health concerns.

L-Glutamine and IBS

In the alternative health community,  the problem of IBS is seen as a symptom of poor gut health and something termed, ‘leaky gut syndrome’.  L-glutamine powder, which is easily obtained and is also inexpensive, is often a foundational supplement for a gut restoration program.

The amino acid  L-Glutamine has been shown to work very well to control diarrhea associated with IBS and Crohns,  and it works fairly rapidly. (some users report 2-3 days)  Most l-glutamine powder supplements are unflavored and have almost no taste whatsoever.

L-Glutamine provides needed nutrition for the mucosal lining of the intestines.  It helps the bowel to reabsorb the water in your stool, which is the primary way in which it stops chronic diarrhea.

Another nutritional ‘food’  that is widely known to help with chronic conditions of all kinds is aloe vera.  Aloe vera both boosts immune response, while also calming inflammation. It promotes detoxification and also restores moisture to the skin and hair.

Aloe Vera and IBS

You might think of aloe vera as a sort of ‘laxative’, and it can have this effect, in certain forms.  However, not all aloe vera formulations contain the laxative compounds; using the right formulation can also be very beneficial for IBS and Chrons symptoms.

L Glutamine + Aloe = AloeElite

I recently found a supplement formulation called Aloeelite that combines a unique formula of aloe vera, with l-glutamine.  This is an effective ‘double-whammy’ supplement that may help your situation.
